Getting your Washington license starts here...
In Washington, all contractors must register with the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). General contractors post a $30,000 bond, while specialty contractors post a $15,000 bond, and all must maintain at least $250,000 liability coverage. Registration requires filing a business license, obtaining a UBI number, and paying a $141.10 application fee. Washington does not offer reciprocity for general contractor registration, but electricians may qualify under trade-specific reciprocity.
Contractor Licensing Inc. helps Washington contractors prepare applications, file bonds and insurance, and ensure compliance with L&I requirements.

RECIPROCAL STATES
Washington Reciprocity
Washington does not have formal reciprocity for contractor registration. All out-of-state contractors must meet Washington’s registration requirements, including bonds, liability insurance, and business licensing. However, Washington does maintain reciprocal agreements for electrical licenses with certain states, allowing qualified electricians to transfer credentials. Contractors should confirm with the appropriate L&I division before applying.
