Getting your New Jersey license starts here...
In New Jersey, residential remodelers must register as Home Improvement Contractors (HIC), while trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVACR, and pool & spa contractors must obtain separate state licenses through their respective boards. These licenses require exams, liability insurance, and in many cases, surety bonds. Reciprocity is limited, so most contractors must apply directly in New Jersey.
Contractor Licensing Inc. simplifies this process by helping you prepare applications, meet exam requirements, secure insurance and bonds, and stay compliant with New Jersey’s strict regulations—so you can get licensed faster and focus on growing your business.

Reciprocity
New Jersey does not offer reciprocity for Home Improvement Contractor registration. Licensed trades — such as electrical, plumbing, HVACR, and pool & spa — also have limited reciprocity. Most applicants must apply directly, provide license verification, and meet New Jersey’s exams, insurance, and bonding requirements.
