Required for anyone performing construction services with projects over $2,000. Registration requires business entity information, liability insurance, and application to the Idaho Contractors Board.
Getting your Idaho license starts here...
In Idaho, contractors must register with the Idaho Contractors Board through the Division of Occupational & Professional Licenses (DOPL). In addition, the state requires trade licenses for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC contractors, which include exams, documented experience, and proof of insurance.
Unlike some states, Idaho does not impose a universal license bond for registration. However, nonresident contractors may need tax compliance bonds, and public works projects often require bid, performance, or payment bonds. As a result, contractors should plan ahead to meet both state and project-specific requirements.
Contractor Licensing Inc. guides you through every step. We help you complete registration, secure trade licenses, and obtain the right bonds and insurance so you can get approved quickly and stay compliant.

- Nonresident Contractors: May be subject to bonding for Idaho tax compliance via the State Tax Commission on larger projects.
- Trades: Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC boards require insurance and experience verification; bonding is not typically mandated for licensing, but project-specific bonds (bid, performance, payment) are often required in public works.
