Education and On the Job Experience:
To qualify for the Florida Irrigation Contractor License, applicants must demonstrate both education and hands-on trade experience. You must provide proof of one of the following:
- 4 years of construction-related degree from an accredited college and 1 year of proven experience.
- 3 years of college-level credit plus 1 year as a foreman.
- 2 years of college-level credit, 1 year as a worker, and 1 year as a foreman.
- 1 year of college-level credit, 2 years as a worker, and 1 year as a foreman.
- 4 years of work experience, with at least 1 year as a foreman.
Construction Related Experience:
Applicants must provide verifiable work history in the following areas relevant to irrigation system construction and installation, such as:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing lawn and landscape irrigation systems.
- Laying out and assembling piping, tubing, and fittings for irrigation.
- Installing valves, pumps, timers, and controllers.
- Setting and calibrating sprinkler heads, drip systems, and backflow prevention devices.
- Trenching, excavating, and site restoration incidental to irrigation work.
Application Types
Initial Issuance Application – Individual or Business.
Change of Status Application – Change your license from one business to another.
Qualify an Additional Entity Application – Add your license to a second business.
What is a Florida Irrigation Contractor?
A Florida Irrigation Contractor is a contractor whose services are unlimited in contracts requiring the experience, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, or design irrigation systems. These systems may include lawn sprinklers, drip irrigation, backflow prevention, timers, pumps, and related piping or controls. Work can be performed on residential, commercial, and agricultural projects.
