Education and On the Job Experience:
To qualify for a Florida Gypsum Contractor License, you must demonstrate a combination of education and hands-on trade experience as required by DBPR. You must show one of the following:
- 4 years of construction-related degree from an accredited college and 1 year of proven experience.
- 3 years of college-level credit plus 1 year as a foreman.
- 2 years of college-level credit, 1 year as a worker, and 1 year as a foreman.
- 1 year of college-level credit, 2 years as a worker, and 1 year as a foreman.
- 4 years of work experience, with at least 1 year as a foreman.
Construction Related Experience:
Applicants must provide verifiable work history in the following areas relevant to gypsum construction:
Installation/Attachment of:
- Installation of drywall and gypsum wallboard systems.
- Taping and finishing of drywall surfaces.
- Application of spray-on fireproofing and acoustical assemblies.
- Construction of non-structural metal stud framing and partitions.
- Installation of lath, plaster, or stucco systems when incidental to gypsum work.

Initial Issuance Application – Individual or Business.
Change of Status Application – Change your license from one business to another.
Qualify an Additional Entity Application – Add your license to a second business.
What is a Florida Gypsum Contractor?
A Florida Gypsum Contractor is a contractor whose services are unlimited in the execution of contracts requiring the experience, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, and finish all types of drywall, gypsum wallboard, ceiling systems, and related assemblies. This includes the placement of non-loadbearing partitions, metal framing, and application of fireproofing or acoustical treatments that are incidental to gypsum installations.
Certified Gypsum Contractors can perform both residential and commercial work and are not restricted by building height.
