If you construct new residential dwellings or alter more than 25% of a home’s value, you must also secure a residential endorsement. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, provide a $25,000 bond, and maintain liability insurance.

You may perform mechanical work such as HVAC, plumbing, or related specialties. A $10,000 bond and insurance coverage are required. Applicants also provide trade-specific qualifications to demonstrate competency.

You may register for defined specialty trades listed in Alaska regulations (12 AAC 21), such as Roofing, Masonry, Electrical, Sheet Metal, or Water & Sewer. A $10,000 bond is required, and you must only perform work within your designated specialty.

You may complete projects valued at $10,000 or less. You cannot split contracts to stay under the cap. Applicants must file a $5,000 bond and carry liability insurance that meets state requirements.

A residential endorsement is required if you supervise new home construction or residential work exceeding 25% of a structure’s value. You must pass the Alaska Residential Contractor Endorsement Exam, then submit proof of a $20,000 bond and liability insurance.
